Billie Eilish - Happier Than Ever (Recycled Black Vinyl 2LP)

Released in July 2021, Happier Than Ever is Billie Eilish's second studio album, an intimate and adventurous follow-up to her breakthrough debut. Created with her brother and producer FINNEAS, the record explores fame, growing older, complicated relationships and the struggle to maintain a sense of self under public scrutiny. Its sound moves between hushed bedroom-pop textures, jazz-inspired passages, electronic beats and explosive guitar rock.

Eilish's restrained vocal delivery is one of the album's greatest strengths. Rather than relying on constant spectacle, she lets small changes in tone and phrasing carry the emotional weight. FINNEAS builds arrangements around those details, giving the songs room to breathe before introducing sudden shifts in rhythm, volume or atmosphere. The result feels more expansive than the pair's earlier work while retaining their unmistakable creative chemistry.

The opening Getting Older reflects on the disorienting experience of fame, while I Didn't Change My Number pairs a cool vocal with an insistent electronic pulse. Billie Bossa Nova brings a playful, jazz-inflected mood, and my future moves from a delicate opening into a warm, gently uplifting groove. Oxytocin is darker and more physical, while GOLDWING contrasts an ethereal choral introduction with a restless electronic arrangement.

Later songs turn towards more direct confrontation. Not My Responsibility challenges the scrutiny placed on Eilish's appearance, and Your Power uses sparse acoustic guitar to examine exploitation and unequal relationships. NDA captures the claustrophobia of celebrity through tense production, while Therefore I Am answers public judgement with dry humour. The title track Happier Than Ever builds from a quiet, intimate ballad into a cathartic surge of distorted guitars, before Male Fantasy ends the record on a reflective note.

This recycled black vinyl 2LP edition, barcode 602435973548, presents the complete sixteen-track album across four sides. The pressing reflects the more considered approach to physical releases associated with this era of Eilish's work, while the music itself remains a compelling portrait of an artist finding new confidence in her own voice.
