Michael Jackson – Number Ones (Vinyl 2LP)

Number Ones brings together 18 essential recordings from the extraordinary solo career of Michael Jackson, one of the most influential performers in popular music history. Originally released as a greatest-hits compilation in 2003, the collection celebrates the songs that helped define modern pop, funk, soul and R&B. Featuring classics including Billie Jean, Beat It, Thriller, Bad, Smooth Criminal and Black or White, it offers an outstanding introduction to the King of Pop's remarkable catalogue.

The collection begins with two highlights from Jackson's groundbreaking 1979 album Off the Wall. Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough captures the irresistible energy of late-1970s disco and funk, while Rock with You showcases his smooth vocals and effortless sense of rhythm. Both recordings were produced by Quincy Jones and helped establish Jackson as a major solo artist.

The phenomenal success of Thriller in 1982 is represented by some of the most recognisable recordings in music history. Billie Jean combines an unforgettable bassline with atmospheric production and compelling storytelling, while Beat It blends pop and rock with a legendary guitar solo by Eddie Van Halen. The title track Thriller remains a cultural landmark, celebrated for its dramatic production and groundbreaking music video. The beautifully understated Human Nature adds a softer, atmospheric contrast.

Jackson's 1987 album Bad receives equally strong representation. Bad delivers assertive funk-pop, The Way You Make Me Feel combines an infectious groove with playful vocals, and Dirty Diana explores a harder rock sound. The romantic duet I Just Can't Stop Loving You and the cinematic Smooth Criminal demonstrate the remarkable range of Jackson's songwriting and performance.

The compilation also explores his later career, including the genre-crossing Black or White from 1991's Dangerous, the emotional ballad You Are Not Alone, and the powerful environmental anthem Earth Song. Blood on the Dance Floor brings a darker, rhythm-driven energy, while You Rock My World and Break of Dawn highlight the sophisticated R&B production of his 2001 album Invincible.

The collection concludes with One More Chance, the R. Kelly-penned ballad recorded for the original 2003 compilation. Together, these 18 tracks demonstrate Jackson's extraordinary versatility, from dancefloor anthems and rock-influenced hits to soulful ballads and socially conscious recordings.

Originally released in 2003, Number Ones received its first official vinyl release on 30 January 2026. This Epic/Legacy edition presents the 18-track compilation across two black vinyl LPs, housed in a gatefold sleeve with custom inner sleeves.
