Skyhooks were an Australian rock band formed in Melbourne in 1973, celebrated for their flamboyant stage presence, sharp social commentary and distinctive blend of glam rock, hard rock and Australian pub rock. Fronted during their most successful years by charismatic singer Graeme “Shirley” Strachan, the band became one of the defining acts of 1970s Australian music. With songwriter and bassist Greg Macainsh providing witty, distinctly Australian lyrics, Skyhooks challenged conventions while delivering infectious guitar-driven rock. Their colourful image, memorable songs and rebellious attitude helped establish a uniquely Australian identity in popular music.
