Band Aid – Do They Know It's Christmas? (40th Anniversary 12" Vinyl Single)

Band Aid – Do They Know It's Christmas? celebrates 40 years of one of pop music's most recognisable charity singles. Originally recorded in 1984 to raise money for famine relief in Ethiopia, the song brought together leading British and Irish musicians in an extraordinary collaboration. This 2024 40th Anniversary 12-inch vinyl single gathers five recordings spanning four decades.

Organised by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure, the original Band Aid project united performers including Bono, George Michael, Boy George, Sting and members of Duran Duran and Spandau Ballet. The recording became a defining moment in 1980s popular culture and helped inspire the landmark Live Aid concerts the following year.

Side A opens with the original 1984 version, followed by the 2004 Band Aid 20 recording, which introduced a new generation of performers to the song. The 2014 Band Aid 30 version completes the side, documenting how the charity project evolved across three decades.

The reverse side features the 2024 Ultimate Mix, assembled by producer Trevor Horn. This anniversary mix combines vocal performances from different Band Aid generations into a single recording, connecting artists and eras in a distinctive tribute to the song's history.

The final track captures Do They Know It's Christmas? at the 1985 Live Aid finale at Wembley Stadium, recalling the scale and communal spirit of the historic fundraising concert.

Issued in 2024 in support of the Band Aid Trust, this black vinyl 12-inch anniversary release offers a compact collection of the song's major versions. It is a notable addition for collectors of 1980s pop, charity singles and Christmas music.
