Ben Lee – I'm Fun (Limited Edition Glow In The Dark Vinyl LP)

Australian indie-pop favourite Ben Lee celebrates creativity, individuality and the joy of growing older on I'm Fun!, his 2022 studio album. Known for his infectious melodies, candid songwriting and enduring contributions to Australian alternative music, Lee delivers a playful and deeply personal collection of songs about embracing life's contradictions. Drawing on three decades of musical experience, I'm Fun! combines the melodic charm of his earlier recordings with an adventurous spirit and a remarkable collection of guest musicians.

The album opens with Born for This Bullshit, featuring Sad13, the musical project of Speedy Ortiz frontwoman Sadie Dupuis. Its combination of sharp humour and energetic indie-pop sets the tone for a record that balances optimism with self-awareness. My Adventure, featuring Australian singer-songwriter Sally Seltmann, explores the possibilities of embracing change, while Parents Get High, featuring Washington, approaches adulthood and family life with characteristic humour. Crooked Tree brings together Lee with Zooey Deschanel and Eric D. Johnson, creating a warm, melodic collaboration, while Like This or Like That rounds out the first side.

On the second side, Arsehole, featuring Georgia Maq of Camp Cope, delivers a witty and self-reflective examination of personal growth. The Good Stuff celebrates life's everyday pleasures, while Sex & Drugs & Rock N Roll revisits the mythology of the music industry from the perspective of an experienced songwriter. Slow Down, featuring American artist Shamir, offers a thoughtful reminder to appreciate the present, before Cowards brings the album to a close.

Created during a period when the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted traditional recording sessions, I'm Fun! developed into a collaborative project involving musicians and producers working remotely. Contributors include Jon Brion, Money Mark, Shamir, Sadie Dupuis and Darren Seltmann, bringing together artists from different generations and musical backgrounds. The result is a vibrant blend of indie pop, alternative rock and singer-songwriter storytelling that reflects Lee's enthusiasm for musical collaboration and creative independence.

Following a career that produced Australian favourites including Cigarettes Will Kill You, Catch My Disease and We're All in This Together, I'm Fun! finds Ben Lee continuing to explore new musical ideas without losing the sincerity and melodic instincts that have defined his work. Its playful songwriting, thoughtful themes and diverse guest appearances make it an engaging addition to his extensive catalogue.
