Big Thief – Double Infinity (Limited Edition Green Vinyl LP)

Double Infinity is the sixth studio album from acclaimed American indie-rock band Big Thief, released in September 2025 through 4AD. Following their expansive 2022 album Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You, the band returned with a deeply collaborative recording that explores the boundaries between indie folk, alternative rock, experimental music and atmospheric psychedelia. Led by the distinctive songwriting and vocals of Adrianne Lenker, Double Infinity captures the spontaneity and emotional honesty that have made Big Thief one of the most celebrated independent bands of their generation.

The album opens with Incomprehensible, a reflective song exploring ageing, change and the passing of time. Lenker's intimate vocals are surrounded by warm instrumentation and expressive arrangements, establishing the record's contemplative atmosphere. Words continues with a hypnotic combination of acoustic textures and rhythmic experimentation, while Los Angeles brings together memorable melodies and the band's instinctive musical chemistry.

All Night All Day showcases Big Thief's ability to create expansive arrangements without losing their emotional intimacy. The title track, Double Infinity, explores the relationship between memory, identity and the passage of time, blending philosophical lyrics with richly layered instrumentation. Together, these recordings demonstrate the band's willingness to move beyond conventional indie-rock structures while maintaining their distinctive melodic sound.

On the second side, No Fear develops into an immersive, extended performance, allowing the musicians room to explore shifting rhythms and instrumental textures. Grandmother, featuring ambient music pioneer Laraaji, introduces meditative drones and expressive vocal arrangements, creating one of the album's most distinctive moments. Happy With You offers a gentler, melodic contrast before closing track How Could I Have Known brings the record to an intimate conclusion.

Recorded over three weeks at the legendary Power Station studios in New York City, Double Infinity was created by Adrianne Lenker, Buck Meek and James Krivchenia alongside an extended collective of musicians. Contributors include Laraaji, June McDoom, Hannah Cohen, Alena Spanger, Joshua Crumbly and others. The performances were largely captured live, with minimal overdubbing, allowing spontaneous arrangements and collective improvisation to shape the album's distinctive sound.

Produced, recorded and mixed by longtime collaborator Dom Monks, the album embraces a communal approach to music-making. Its combination of organic instrumentation, experimental textures and deeply personal songwriting makes Double Infinity a rewarding listening experience for fans of contemporary indie folk and adventurous alternative rock.
