Exodus is the landmark ninth studio album from Jamaican reggae legends Bob Marley & The Wailers, originally released on 3 June 1977. Widely regarded as one of the greatest reggae albums ever recorded, Exodus combines powerful messages of freedom, spirituality and social justice with irresistible rhythms and timeless melodies. Featuring classics including Jamming, Waiting in Vain, Three Little Birds and One Love / People Get Ready, the album helped establish Bob Marley as one of the most influential musicians in popular music.

Recorded primarily in London after Marley survived an assassination attempt in Jamaica in December 1976, Exodus reflects a period of personal and political upheaval. Its music balances the urgency of Marley's Rastafarian beliefs and calls for unity with warmer, more intimate songs celebrating love, hope and human connection. The result is an extraordinary album that moves effortlessly between politically conscious roots reggae and uplifting, soulful songwriting.

The album opens with the atmospheric Natural Mystic, its gradually building rhythm setting the tone for the socially conscious first side. So Much Things to Say and Guiltiness explore injustice and oppression, while The Heathen delivers a powerful message of resistance. The side closes with the monumental title track Exodus, an extended reggae anthem driven by hypnotic bass, layered percussion and Marley's commanding vocals.

Side B contains some of the most recognisable songs in reggae history. Jamming celebrates togetherness through its infectious groove, while Waiting in Vain and Turn Your Lights Down Low reveal Marley's gift for tender, soulful love songs. The uplifting Three Little Birds remains one of his most beloved recordings, and the album concludes with One Love / People Get Ready, a universal call for peace and unity that continues to resonate with audiences around the world.

Produced by Bob Marley & The Wailers, the album features the exceptional musicianship of the Wailers, including brothers Aston 'Family Man' Barrett on bass and Carlton Barrett on drums, alongside keyboardist Tyrone Downie and guitarist Junior Marvin. Their distinctive interplay of deep basslines, offbeat guitar rhythms, keyboards and percussion creates the warm, immersive sound that helped define roots reggae.

Exodus achieved international acclaim and became one of Marley's most enduring releases. Its combination of socially conscious songwriting and accessible melodies introduced reggae to an even wider global audience, while its influence continues to be felt across rock, pop, soul and contemporary reggae. In 1999, Time magazine named it the best album of the 20th century.

This official 2015 remastered reissue presents the complete original 10-track album on a single 180g black vinyl LP. Released through Island Records and Tuff Gong, the pressing recreates the album's distinctive gold metallic sleeve with embossed lettering and includes a printed inner sleeve. The heavyweight vinyl format makes this a particularly appealing edition for collectors and reggae enthusiasts.

From the spiritual intensity of Natural Mystic and Exodus to the joyful optimism of Three Little Birds and One Love, this essential album captures Bob Marley & The Wailers at their creative peak.
