Christina Aguilera – Stripped (Vinyl 2LP)

Released in 2002, Stripped marked Christina Aguilera's determination to define herself beyond the polished teen-pop image of her debut. Across a bold double album, she explores self-worth, sexuality, vulnerability and independence through pop, R&B, soul, rock and hip-hop. Its stylistic range is part of the point: rather than settling on one radio-friendly sound, Aguilera uses the record to assert a more personal artistic identity.

Aguilera worked with a varied group of collaborators, including Linda Perry, Scott Storch and Alicia Keys. The production moves from sparse piano arrangements to muscular beats and dramatic, layered vocals. Her formidable voice remains the constant, capable of quiet intimacy as well as the explosive, gospel-influenced delivery that made her famous.

Can't Hold Us Down, featuring Lil' Kim, challenges double standards with an assertive hip-hop pulse. Walk Away reveals a more reflective side, while Fighter turns betrayal into a defiant rock anthem. Infatuation brings Latin-influenced rhythms and Beautiful, written by Linda Perry, offers a simple but powerful message of self-acceptance. The emotional force of I'm OK contrasts with the sensual confidence of Dirrty, featuring Redman.

Later songs such as The Voice Within and Keep on Singin' My Song bring the album's themes of resilience into focus. Stripped remains a significant turning point in Aguilera's career because its ambition and personal candour are inseparable from the music.
