Diana Ross – Diana Ross (Limited Edition 140g Gold Vinyl LP)

Diana Ross – Diana Ross is the acclaimed 1976 studio album from one of Motown's most celebrated voices. Blending sophisticated soul, romantic ballads, lush orchestration and irresistible disco rhythms, the album captures Diana Ross at a defining moment in her solo career. This 2023 limited-edition reissue is pressed on beautiful 140g gold vinyl.

Originally released on Motown Records, Diana Ross became one of her most successful albums of the decade, reaching number five on the US Billboard 200. Its nine songs showcase her remarkable versatility, moving effortlessly between heartfelt performances and dancefloor favourites. The album also marked an important chapter in the evolution of disco and contemporary R&B.

Opening track Theme from Mahogany (Do You Know Where You're Going To) is a sweeping ballad associated with the 1975 film Mahogany, in which Ross starred. The song topped the Billboard Hot 100 and remains one of her signature recordings. I Thought It Took a Little Time (But Today I Fell in Love) follows with elegant orchestration and a warm, expressive vocal performance.

The album's centrepiece is Love Hangover, a landmark disco recording that begins as a sensual, slow-burning ballad before transforming into an infectious dance groove. Produced by Hal Davis, the song became another US number-one hit and helped establish Ross as a major presence in the emerging disco movement. Kiss Me Now closes the first side with a playful, energetic performance.

Side B opens with the tender You're Good My Child, followed by the uplifting One Love in My Lifetime, another successful single from the album. Ain't Nothin' But a Maybe highlights Ross's soulful delivery, while After You offers a beautifully restrained romantic moment. The album concludes with Smile, a graceful interpretation of the timeless standard.

Combining classic Motown sophistication with the evolving sounds of 1970s soul and disco, Diana Ross remains an essential recording from her extensive catalogue. Its mixture of memorable hits, expressive vocals and polished arrangements makes it a rewarding listen from beginning to end.

This 2023 limited-edition gold vinyl LP presents the original nine-track album on 140g coloured vinyl. An attractive collectible pressing for Diana Ross fans and anyone building a collection of classic soul, Motown and disco records.
