Flight Of The Conchords – Live In London (Vinyl 3LP)

New Zealand musical comedy duo Flight of the Conchords bring their unmistakable blend of deadpan humour, clever songwriting and musical invention to Live in London, their 2019 live album. Featuring Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement, the recording captures the pair performing before an enthusiastic audience at London's Eventim Apollo during their sold-out UK and Ireland tour. Combining beloved songs from their acclaimed television series with newer material and hilarious onstage conversations, Live in London celebrates everything that has made Flight of the Conchords a cult favourite around the world.

The performance opens with Father and Son, a brilliantly awkward musical conversation that immediately establishes the duo's distinctive comic style. Band Reunion and Iain and Deanna continue the humour, while Inner City Pressure revisits one of their best-known songs, affectionately parodying the sound of 1980s synth-pop. The entertaining New Zealand Symphony Orchestra introduction leads into Summer of 1353, followed by Complimentary Muffin and the wonderfully absurd storytelling of Stana.

Across the remaining records, Flight of the Conchords move effortlessly between musical genres and comic situations. Foux du Fafa delivers their hilarious take on French-language pop, while Seagull and Stuck in a Lift showcase the duo's talent for turning everyday situations into elaborate musical performances. Mutha'uckas – Hurt Feelings combines two of their hip-hop-inspired favourites, while Bowie pays tribute to David Bowie's theatrical musical personality. Bus Driver, Robots and Carol Brown are further highlights, with The Most Beautiful Girl (In the Room) bringing the collection to a memorable close.

Recorded for the duo's 2018 HBO comedy special, Live in London documents their return to the network more than a decade after the debut of their acclaimed television series. The album features seven newer songs alongside established favourites, capturing both the musical detail of their performances and the spontaneous exchanges that make their live shows so entertaining. Two performances, Carol Brown and The Most Beautiful Girl (In the Room), were omitted from the televised special but are included on the album.

Released through Sub Pop Records, this triple black vinyl LP edition features twenty-two live tracks spread across five playable sides, with an etched sixth side. The extended format preserves the musical performances, spoken introductions and audience interactions that make Live in London such an enjoyable listening experience. An excellent addition for fans of Flight of the Conchords, musical comedy and inventive live recordings.
