George Benson – Breezin' (Limited Edition Blue Vinyl LP)

Breezin' is the landmark 1976 album from legendary American jazz guitarist and vocalist George Benson. Blending smooth jazz, jazz-funk, soul and sophisticated pop influences, the album marked a major turning point in Benson's career, introducing his extraordinary guitar playing and warm, expressive vocals to a much wider audience. With its effortlessly flowing melodies, polished arrangements and relaxed atmosphere, Breezin' remains one of the defining recordings of the smooth jazz era.

The six-track album opens with the timeless instrumental Breezin', written by Bobby Womack, before moving into the soulful classic This Masquerade, written by Leon Russell. Other highlights include the rhythmic jazz-funk of Six to Four, the beautifully melodic Affirmation, the laid-back groove of So This Is Love? and the elegant closing track Lady. Throughout the album, Benson's fluid guitar technique and unmistakable musical phrasing take centre stage.

Produced by acclaimed record producer Tommy LiPuma, Breezin' features an outstanding group of musicians, including Phil Upchurch on rhythm guitar and bass, Ronnie Foster on keyboards, Jorge Dalto on piano, Harvey Mason on drums and Ralph MacDonald on percussion. Their performances create a rich, sophisticated sound that balances jazz improvisation with memorable melodies and understated funk rhythms.

Breezin' became a breakthrough commercial success, reaching number one on the US Billboard 200 and establishing Benson as a major crossover artist. The album earned multiple Grammy nominations, while This Masquerade won the Grammy Award for Record of the Year and the album's title track earned recognition for Best Pop Instrumental Performance. Its combination of exceptional musicianship, accessible songwriting and beautifully detailed production has made it an enduring favourite among jazz enthusiasts and vinyl collectors.
