The Grateful Dead is the 1967 debut studio album from legendary San Francisco band Grateful Dead. Recorded during the height of the city's emerging psychedelic scene, the album captures the band's early blend of blues, folk, jug-band music and psychedelic rock before the extended improvisation of their live performances became central to their reputation.

The nine-track album includes The Golden Road (To Unlimited Devotion), Morning Dew, Cold Rain And Snow and Viola Lee Blues. The record moves from compact blues and folk-based songs through to the ten-minute closing version of Viola Lee Blues, offering an early snapshot of the exploratory style the band would develop throughout their career.

The album features the classic early lineup of Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Ron "Pigpen" McKernan and Bill Kreutzmann. Recorded and mixed in just a matter of days, it remains an important document of the Grateful Dead before albums such as Anthem Of The Sun, Workingman's Dead and American Beauty expanded their sound in the years that followed.

This Vinyl LP edition features the album's 2017 remaster on a single 180g black vinyl record, preserving the original nine-track running order.
