GZA – Beneath The Surface (Vinyl 2LP)

Beneath The Surface is the third solo studio album from GZA, originally released in 1999. Following the acclaim of Liquid Swords, the Wu-Tang Clan co-founder returned with another densely written collection built around intricate lyricism, dark production and the distinctive East Coast hip hop sound associated with the Wu-Tang collective.

The 18-track album features standout tracks including Amplified Sample, Beneath The Surface, Crash Your Crew, Breaker, Breaker and Publicity. Guest appearances include fellow Wu-Tang members Method Man, RZA and Masta Killa, alongside Killah Priest, Ol' Dirty Bastard, Hell Razah, Timbo King and other collaborators.

Production comes from contributors including Arabian Knight, RZA and Inspectah Deck, with GZA continuing the cerebral, cinematic approach that established him as one of the Wu-Tang Clan's most distinctive lyricists. Tracks such as High Price, Small Reward, Hip Hop Fury and Stringplay (Like This, Like That) make the album a strong continuation of his late-1990s solo catalogue.

This 2016 Geffen Records reissue was released as part of Universal Music's Respect The Classics series and presents the complete 18-track album across two standard-weight black vinyl LPs.
