Hermitude – Mirror Mountain (Indie Exclusive Blue Mountains Mist Vinyl LP)

Australian electronic duo Hermitude return to their roots with Mirror Mountain, their seventh studio album, released in 2022. Comprising multi-instrumentalists Luke Dubber (Luke Dubs) and Angus Stuart (El Gusto), Hermitude have spent more than two decades developing their distinctive blend of electronic music, hip-hop-inspired beats and melodic production. Created in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales, where both musicians grew up, Mirror Mountain represents a deeply personal homecoming, capturing the atmosphere, nostalgia and natural beauty of the landscape that helped shape their musical beginnings.

After years of touring and living in major cities, the duo returned to the Blue Mountains during the COVID-19 pandemic, establishing a stripped-back recording setup at Angus's childhood home near Blackheath. Working without the usual pressures of touring and outside expectations, they rediscovered the freedom and experimentation that characterised their earliest recordings. The resulting album combines warm synthesizers, intricate percussion, atmospheric textures and uplifting melodies, creating a sound that feels both familiar and refreshingly new.

The album opens with St Claire, a beautifully layered instrumental that gradually builds through shimmering synthesizers and propulsive rhythms. Lift Me Up follows with bright melodic hooks and energetic electronic production, while Promises, featuring Blue Mountains singer Andie, introduces an expressive vocal performance against a backdrop of atmospheric synths and intricate beats. When You Feel Like This, featuring Australian indie-pop favourites The Jungle Giants, combines Hermitude's electronic production with infectious vocals and an uplifting, dancefloor-ready arrangement.

On the second side, Golden Hour captures a sense of warmth and tranquillity through its flowing melodies and relaxed rhythms. Flush With Love introduces playful electronic textures and carefully arranged percussion, while Tides of Time explores a more reflective atmosphere. Closing track Sixth Sense brings the album to a satisfying conclusion, balancing the duo's characteristic rhythmic experimentation with immersive electronic soundscapes.

Across its eight tracks, Mirror Mountain reflects Hermitude's renewed connection with their surroundings and creative beginnings. Drawing inspiration from the mountains, local communities and memories of growing up in regional New South Wales, the album combines the organic warmth of live instrumentation with detailed electronic production. Its blend of downtempo, instrumental hip-hop and melodic electronica makes it a rewarding listen for longtime Hermitude fans and newcomers alike.

This indie-exclusive Blue Mountains Mist vinyl edition presents Mirror Mountain on a distinctive blue-toned coloured vinyl LP, reflecting the atmospheric beauty of the region that inspired the record. Featuring all eight album tracks across two sides, this special pressing is an appealing addition for collectors of Australian electronic music and fans of Hermitude's unmistakable sound.
