Iron Maiden – Piece Of Mind (Remastered Vinyl LP)

Iron Maiden – Piece Of Mind (Remastered Vinyl LP) is the fourth studio album from British heavy metal legends Iron Maiden, originally released in 1983. Featuring the iconic tracks The Trooper, Flight of Icarus, Where Eagles Dare and Revelations, the album captures the band at a pivotal moment in their career, combining powerful riffs, soaring vocals and intricate guitar harmonies with ambitious storytelling.

Following the enormous success of The Number of the Beast, Iron Maiden returned with a record that further established their reputation as pioneers of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. Piece Of Mind introduced drummer Nicko McBrain, completing the celebrated line-up of Bruce Dickinson on vocals, Steve Harris on bass, Dave Murray and Adrian Smith on guitars, and McBrain on drums.

Produced by longtime collaborator Martin Birch and recorded at Compass Point Studios in Nassau, the album showcases Iron Maiden's increasingly sophisticated songwriting. Its nine tracks draw inspiration from literature, mythology, history and cinema, creating a distinctive combination of musical intensity and imaginative storytelling.

Opening track Where Eagles Dare begins with McBrain's unmistakable drum introduction before launching into a powerful arrangement inspired by the classic war film. Revelations, written by Bruce Dickinson, follows with atmospheric passages, dramatic tempo changes and some of the band's most memorable guitar work.

Flight of Icarus takes inspiration from Greek mythology, transforming the story of Icarus into a powerful heavy metal anthem. Its driving rhythm, melodic chorus and soaring vocal performance helped establish it as one of Iron Maiden's defining songs.

Die with Your Boots On closes the first side with galloping basslines, energetic guitar riffs and a memorable chorus, demonstrating the tight musicianship that made the band's classic 1980s recordings so influential.

Side B opens with The Trooper, one of the most recognisable heavy metal songs ever recorded. Inspired by the Charge of the Light Brigade during the Crimean War, the track features Steve Harris's signature galloping bass, exhilarating twin-guitar melodies and Dickinson's commanding vocals. It remains a centrepiece of Iron Maiden's live performances and an essential part of their musical legacy.

Still Life introduces a darker, more atmospheric sound, while Quest for Fire and Sun and Steel explore prehistoric adventure and Japanese swordsmanship respectively. The album concludes with To Tame a Land, an ambitious epic inspired by Frank Herbert's science-fiction novel Dune, featuring intricate instrumental passages and dramatic changes in pace.

Reaching number three on the UK Albums Chart, Piece Of Mind helped cement Iron Maiden's international success. More than four decades later, its combination of memorable songwriting, technical musicianship and imaginative themes continues to make it an essential heavy metal album.

This 2024 Parlophone remastered edition presents the complete original nine-track album on a black vinyl LP, using the 2015 remaster. Pressed in Germany and presented in a gatefold sleeve, the release retains the striking original artwork by Derek Riggs, depicting the band's mascot Eddie restrained inside a padded cell.

Whether you're discovering Iron Maiden's classic recordings or completing your vinyl collection, Piece Of Mind is an essential addition for fans of traditional British heavy metal.
