John Butler – Ocean (Limited Edition Vinyl 12")

Ocean is one of the defining instrumental compositions from Australian guitarist and songwriter John Butler. Developed and reinterpreted throughout Butler's career, the expansive acoustic guitar piece has become one of his signature works, showcasing the intricate fingerpicking, rhythmic playing and dynamic shifts that helped establish his distinctive sound.

Ocean first appeared during Butler's early career and was later recorded for his self-titled John Butler album. Rather than remaining a fixed composition, the instrumental has continued to evolve through different recordings and live performances, making it one of the most recognisable pieces in the John Butler catalogue.

This special release pairs the 11-minute-plus Ocean with Heading South on the B-side. Together, the two extended tracks showcase Butler's acoustic guitar playing and the roots, folk and improvisational elements that have remained central to his music.

Released for Record Store Day 2015, this limited-edition 12-inch vinyl marked the first time Ocean had been released on vinyl. The two-track release plays at 45 RPM and was issued in Australia through Jarrah Records.
