John Coltrane – Soultrane (Vinyl LP)

Soultrane is a classic 1958 album from legendary tenor saxophonist John Coltrane, recorded during one of the most important periods in his development as a bandleader. Released by Prestige Records, the session pairs Coltrane with pianist Red Garland, bassist Paul Chambers and drummer Art Taylor for five expansive performances rooted in hard bop and jazz tradition.

The album opens with an extended interpretation of Tadd Dameron's Good Bait, followed by Coltrane's deeply expressive reading of I Want To Talk About You. Side Two features You Say You Care, Theme For Ernie and a fast-moving interpretation of Irving Berlin's Russian Lullaby.

Recorded at Rudy Van Gelder's studio in Hackensack, New Jersey on 7 February 1958, Soultrane captures Coltrane at a pivotal stage in his career. The original liner notes by jazz critic Ira Gitler famously introduced the phrase "sheets of sound" to describe the dense, cascading runs becoming a defining part of Coltrane's playing during this period.

This Vinyl LP reissue presents the original five-track album on 140g black vinyl with the classic Prestige cover artwork reproduced.
