Coming Home was produced by Austin Jenkins and Joshua Block of the Texas rock band White Denim, working as part of the Niles City Sound production team. Recorded in Fort Worth using vintage-inspired recording techniques and live instrumentation, the album features warm analogue-style textures, soulful guitar arrangements, expressive percussion and carefully layered backing vocals. The production deliberately captures the atmosphere of classic soul recordings without sacrificing the intimacy of Bridges' performances.

Upon its release, Coming Home received widespread critical acclaim and debuted at number six on the US Billboard 200. The album was also nominated for Best R&B Album at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards, helping establish Leon Bridges as a major new voice in contemporary soul music.
