Mac Demarco – Guitar (Limited Edition Transparent Orange Vinyl LP)

Canadian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Mac DeMarco returns to intimate, stripped-back songwriting on Guitar, his 2025 studio album. His first conventional studio album of new songs since 2019's Here Comes the Cowboy, the record follows the sprawling 199-track One Wayne G and the instrumental travelogue Five Easy Hot Dogs. Across twelve understated songs, DeMarco explores memory, relationships and personal reflection through the relaxed melodies, distinctive guitar playing and unpolished charm that have made him one of indie music's most recognisable artists.

The album opens with Shining, establishing a gentle, reflective atmosphere built around DeMarco's conversational vocals and uncluttered arrangements. Sweeter and Phantom continue the intimate mood, while Nightmare and Terror introduce darker shades beneath the record's deceptively easygoing sound. Rock and Roll closes the first side, bringing together the understated guitar textures and melodic simplicity that define this chapter of his songwriting.

On the second side, Home and Nothing at All offer further glimpses into DeMarco's personal world, followed by Punishment, Knockin and Holy. Closing track Rooster completes a collection that favours emotional directness over elaborate studio production. The songs retain his familiar blend of indie rock, lo-fi pop and soft rock, but with a particularly quiet, homespun character that rewards attentive listening.

Written, performed and recorded entirely by DeMarco between 16 and 28 November 2024 at his home studio in Los Angeles, Guitar is a deliberately personal recording. Rather than assembling a large group of collaborators, he handled the instrumentation and recording himself, creating a cohesive album centred on his own musical instincts. The result is a revealing snapshot of an artist comfortable working at his own pace, with straightforward arrangements that leave plenty of space for the songs themselves.

This limited edition indie-exclusive pressing presents Guitar on transparent orange vinyl LP, housed in a gatefold sleeve. Featuring all twelve tracks across two sides, this distinctive coloured edition is an excellent addition for Mac DeMarco collectors and fans of intimate, guitar-led indie music.
