Originally released in 1997, Butterfly is the sixth studio album from Mariah Carey and a defining moment in her career. Moving further into contemporary R&B and hip-hop while retaining the soaring ballads and vocal performances that established her as a global star, the album marked an important period of creative and personal independence for Carey.

Featuring some of her most celebrated songs, including "Honey", "My All", "Butterfly" and "The Roof", the album combines sleek late-'90s production with more intimate and personal songwriting. Carey worked with an impressive group of collaborators and producers including Sean "Puffy" Combs, Q-Tip, Trackmasters and longtime collaborator Walter Afanasieff.

Other highlights include "Breakdown" featuring Krayzie Bone and Wish Bone, the atmospheric "Babydoll", the deeply personal "Close My Eyes" and Carey's interpretation of Prince's "The Beautiful Ones" featuring Dru Hill.
