Roxy Music – Roxy Music is the groundbreaking debut album from British art-rock pioneers Roxy Music, originally released in 1972. Combining glam rock, experimental electronics, sophisticated songwriting and theatrical performances, the album helped redefine the possibilities of popular music. This 2022 reissue is pressed on 180g black vinyl and half-speed mastered at Abbey Road Studios.

Led by the charismatic Bryan Ferry, the original Roxy Music lineup brought together a remarkable collection of musicians, including Brian Eno on synthesiser and electronic treatments, Phil Manzanera on guitar, Andy Mackay on saxophone and oboe, Graham Simpson on bass and Paul Thompson on drums. Their contrasting musical backgrounds created an adventurous sound that blended vintage rock and roll with futuristic experimentation.

Opening track Re-Make/Re-Model immediately establishes the band's unpredictable approach, mixing energetic rock with playful musical references. Ladytron follows with atmospheric synthesiser textures, powerful guitar and Ferry's distinctive vocals. The expansive If There Is Something moves from country-influenced rock into an emotional, saxophone-driven finale, while 2HB offers a stylish tribute to Humphrey Bogart.

Side B continues the experimentation with The Bob (Medley), a dramatic composition featuring abrupt shifts in rhythm and atmosphere. Chance Meeting explores a more unsettling, theatrical sound, while Would You Believe? combines classic rock and roll energy with the band's eccentric personality. The sweeping Sea Breezes highlights their adventurous arrangements before Bitters End closes the album with nostalgic vocal harmonies.

Reaching the UK Top 10, Roxy Music became a landmark release in the development of glam rock and art rock. Its mixture of fashion, electronics and unconventional songwriting influenced generations of musicians and established the band as one of the most innovative acts of the 1970s.

For this 2022 half-speed mastered edition, engineer Miles Showell cut the album at Abbey Road Studios in London using the original quarter-inch master tapes. Pressed on heavyweight 180g vinyl, the record is presented in a gloss-laminated gatefold sleeve featuring refreshed artwork.
