The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (Orange Vinyl LP)

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (Music From & Inspired By) is the official soundtrack to the 2023 film The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, the prequel to the hugely successful Hunger Games film series. Combining haunting folk melodies, traditional Appalachian influences, bluegrass and contemporary songwriting, this atmospheric collection captures the music, emotion and storytelling at the heart of the film.

Set decades before the events of the original Hunger Games trilogy, the film explores the early years of Coriolanus Snow and his relationship with Lucy Gray Baird, a talented singer from District 12. Music plays a central role in the story, with the soundtrack drawing inspiration from the folk traditions, acoustic instrumentation and storytelling songs associated with Lucy Gray and her travelling musical group, the Covey.

One of the soundtrack's biggest highlights is Can't Catch Me Now, the powerful original song written and performed by Olivia Rodrigo. Combining delicate acoustic arrangements with soaring vocals and dramatic production, the song captures the film's themes of survival, loss and defiance. It became one of the most celebrated songs associated with the Hunger Games franchise.

The soundtrack also features several memorable performances from the film's star, Rachel Zegler, who portrays Lucy Gray Baird. Her interpretations of The Hanging Tree, Nothing You Can Take From Me, The Ballad of Lucy Gray Baird and Pure As the Driven Snow bring the character's musical identity to life through expressive vocals and traditional folk arrangements.

Further highlights include Wool by Flatland Cavalry, The Gardens by Sierra Ferrell, Bury Me Beneath the Willow by Molly Tuttle and Cabin Song by acclaimed bluegrass musician Billy Strings. Contributions from Bella White, Charles Wesley Godwin and the Covey Band add depth to the soundtrack's distinctive blend of Americana, country and roots music.

The soundtrack was executive-produced by acclaimed producer Dave Cobb, known for his work with artists including Chris Stapleton, Brandi Carlile and Sturgill Simpson. His approach emphasises organic instrumentation, expressive performances and traditional musical influences, helping create a cohesive collection that feels closely connected to the film's setting and characters.

This official 2024 limited-edition vinyl release presents 15 songs from the soundtrack on a single Orange Crush translucent vinyl LP. The striking coloured pressing complements the film's visual identity, making it an appealing addition to any Hunger Games soundtrack collection.

Featuring Olivia Rodrigo, Rachel Zegler, Billy Strings, Sierra Ferrell and other acclaimed artists, The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes is a compelling collection of cinematic folk and Americana that stands on its own as an enjoyable listening experience.
