The Kite String Tangle x Dustin Tebbutt – Illuminate (10" Vinyl EP)

Illuminate brings together two distinctive voices in Australian independent music: Brisbane electronic producer The Kite String Tangle (Danny Harley) and singer-songwriter Dustin Tebbutt. Originally released in 2015, this collaborative three-track EP combines atmospheric electronica, delicate folk influences and intimate songwriting in a beautifully understated recording.

The title track, Illuminate, captures the natural chemistry between the two artists. Tebbutt's expressive falsetto floats above shimmering synthesisers, gently pulsing electronic rhythms and warm instrumental textures. The Kite String Tangle's detailed production creates an immersive atmosphere, allowing the song's emotional intensity to develop gradually. The result balances the organic warmth of indie folk with the spacious, carefully layered sound of contemporary electronic music.

The collaboration also reflects the complementary musical backgrounds of its creators. The Kite String Tangle had established himself through atmospheric electronic releases including Given the Chance and Arcadia, while Dustin Tebbutt was gaining recognition for his evocative songwriting and distinctive vocal style. Together, they create a sound that feels both expansive and personal, blending electronic experimentation with the intimacy of acoustic-based songwriting.

This 10-inch vinyl edition includes two additional recordings exclusive to the physical release. On Side B, The Kite String Tangle offers his interpretation of Dustin Tebbutt's The Breach, while Tebbutt performs his own version of The Kite String Tangle's Words. These complementary covers give listeners an opportunity to hear each artist reinterpret the other's work, making the record a particularly appealing addition for fans of either musician.

Released through the Cool Accidents Singles Club, Illuminate is a compact but rewarding collaboration that showcases the connection between Australia's indie-electronic and contemporary folk scenes. Its combination of an original collaborative single and two exclusive reinterpretations makes this 10-inch pressing a distinctive addition to an Australian independent music collection.
