Released in 2007, Boxer is the fourth studio album from The National and the record that helped establish the band as one of the defining names in modern indie rock. Elegant, restrained and deeply atmospheric, the album pairs Matt Berninger's unmistakable baritone with intricate guitar work, piano, strings and the distinctive rhythms of brothers Bryan and Scott Devendorf.

Featuring some of The National's most enduring songs, including "Fake Empire", "Mistaken For Strangers", "Slow Show" and "Apartment Story", Boxer explores relationships, adulthood, anxiety and everyday life through Berninger's characteristically understated and evocative lyrics.

Recorded across several studios and produced by the band with Peter Katis, the album also features orchestral arrangements from Padma Newsome and guest contributions from musicians including Sufjan Stevens. Songs such as "Green Gloves", "Start A War", "Ada" and the closing "Gospel" give the album a beautifully cohesive, late-night atmosphere.
