The Teskey Brothers – Run Home Slow (Emerald Green Vinyl LP)

Run Home Slow is the acclaimed second studio album from Australian blues and soul band The Teskey Brothers, originally released on 2 August 2019. Following their breakthrough debut Half Mile Harvest, the Melbourne group expanded their distinctive sound with a richly arranged collection of soulful ballads, blues-inspired grooves and heartfelt songwriting. Combining Josh Teskey's extraordinary vocals with Sam Teskey's expressive guitar playing and the band's warm, organic instrumentation, Run Home Slow established The Teskey Brothers as one of Australia's most celebrated contemporary soul acts.

Opening track Let Me Let You Down sets the tone with its shuffling rhythm, punchy guitar accents and Josh Teskey's unmistakably soulful delivery. Carry You follows with a deeply emotional performance, building from a restrained introduction into a powerful arrangement that showcases the band's ability to combine vulnerability with musical intensity. Man of the Universe brings a lighter, rhythm-driven feel, while Hold Me blends gospel influences, group vocals and an uplifting sense of togetherness.

The first side closes with Paint My Heart, an expansive recording that highlights the band's gift for dynamic arrangements. Moving between intimate passages and powerful instrumental crescendos, the song has become a favourite among fans of the group's live performances.

Side B opens with Rain, one of The Teskey Brothers' defining recordings. Built around expressive vocals, atmospheric instrumentation and a memorable melody, the song captures the emotional depth of the band's songwriting. So Caught Up follows with an infectious rhythm and classic soul influences, while San Francisco brings a reflective, blues-infused atmosphere.

Sunshine Baby introduces a warmer, playful groove, followed by the gentle and contemplative Sun Come Ease Me In. Closing track That Bird provides a moving conclusion, bringing together the band's rich vocal harmonies and expressive instrumentation.

Produced by Paul Butler and recorded at the band's studio in Warrandyte, Victoria, Run Home Slow builds on the analogue recording techniques and vintage influences that defined their debut. Drawing inspiration from classic soul, rhythm and blues, gospel and roots music, the album combines timeless musical influences with a distinctly contemporary Australian identity.

The album reached number two on the ARIA Albums Chart and won three awards at the 2019 ARIA Music Awards, including Best Group and Best Blues & Roots Album. Sam Teskey also received a Grammy nomination for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical, recognising the record's exceptional production and recording quality.
