The Who – Quadrophenia (180g Remastered Vinyl 2LP)

Quadrophenia is the landmark 1973 double album and rock opera from The Who. Written by guitarist Pete Townshend, it follows Jimmy, a young mod struggling with identity, disillusionment and belonging in 1960s Britain. This 2011 remastered reissue presents the original 17-track album across two heavyweight 180g vinyl LPs.

Following the success of Tommy and Who's Next, The Who created one of their most ambitious recordings. Townshend's layered guitars and synthesisers combine with Roger Daltrey's powerful vocals, John Entwistle's thunderous bass and Keith Moon's explosive drumming. Recurring musical themes represent the four conflicting aspects of Jimmy's personality, giving the album its title.

The story begins with the atmospheric I Am the Sea before launching into the ferocious bass-driven The Real Me. The instrumental title track establishes the album's sweeping musical themes, while Cut My Hair and The Punk and the Godfather explore Jimmy's frustrations with family, fashion and his heroes.

Elsewhere, I'm One reveals a more vulnerable side, and I've Had Enough captures the character's growing desperation. The energetic 5:15, reflective Sea and Sand and theatrical Bell Boy lead towards the dramatic closing sequence of Doctor Jimmy, The Rock and the soaring Love, Reign O'er Me.

Widely regarded as one of The Who's finest achievements, Quadrophenia combines hard rock, progressive arrangements and cinematic storytelling. Its exploration of youth culture and alienation also inspired the acclaimed 1979 film of the same name.

This 2011 remastered edition is pressed on two 180g black vinyl LPs and housed in a gatefold sleeve with a 44-page booklet, recreating the album's original presentation. An essential addition to any classic rock collection.
