Weezer – OK Human (Limited Edition Control Room Chaos Splatter Vinyl LP)

American alternative rock favourites Weezer take an unexpected and captivating musical direction on OK Human, their fourteenth studio album, originally released in January 2021. Trading the distorted guitars and power-pop riffs that helped define their career for lush orchestral arrangements, piano-led melodies and intimate songwriting, the band created one of the most distinctive records in their extensive catalogue. Inspired by classic orchestral pop and the ambitious arrangements of albums such as The Beach Boys' Pet Sounds, OK Human showcases a different side of frontman Rivers Cuomo's songwriting.

The album opens with All My Favorite Songs, a bittersweet reflection on music, identity and the contradictions of modern life, supported by sweeping strings and an irresistible melody. Aloo Gobi combines everyday observations with sophisticated arrangements, while Grapes of Wrath explores the escapism of audiobooks and literature. Numbers offers an introspective look at comparison and self-worth, followed by the intimate Playing My Piano and the brief, beautifully arranged Mirror Image.

On the second side, Screens examines society's dependence on technology, while Bird with a Broken Wing brings a more reflective and vulnerable perspective. Dead Roses introduces a darker atmosphere through dramatic orchestration, followed by the short instrumental Everything Happens for a Reason. The uplifting Here Comes the Rain offers a welcome change of mood before La Brea Tar Pits closes the album with a thoughtful blend of melancholy, humour and musical warmth.

Produced by Jake Sinclair and featuring orchestral arrangements by Rob Mathes, OK Human was recorded using analogue equipment with a 38-piece orchestra. Rather than building the songs around electric guitars and conventional rock production, Weezer embraced live instrumentation, strings, horns and piano to create a cohesive orchestral pop album. The result combines Cuomo's gift for memorable melodies with a rich, organic sound influenced by classic pop songwriting. Released during a period of global uncertainty, its themes of isolation, technology and human connection give the album an especially reflective character.

This limited edition Control Room Chaos Splatter pressing presents OK Human on clear vinyl with multicoloured splatter, creating a striking visual accompaniment to the album's colourful orchestral sound. Released through Crush Music and Atlantic Records, this collectible vinyl LP features all twelve tracks across two sides. The splatter pattern varies between individual records, making each copy visually distinctive.
