Originally released in 2010, Koonyum Sun marked a new chapter for Australian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Xavier Rudd. Recorded with South African musicians Tio Moloantoa and Andile Nqubezelo under the name Izintaba, the album blends Rudd's distinctive roots sound with rich rhythms, vocal harmonies and African musical influences.

Featuring standout tracks including "Sky to Ground", "Set Me Free", "Fresh Green Freedom", "Koonyum Sun" and "Time to Smile", the album moves away from the heavier direction of Dark Shades of Blue and returns to a warmer, uplifting blend of roots, folk, blues and world music. The collaboration with Izintaba brings an energetic rhythmic foundation and additional vocal textures to Rudd's unmistakable sound.

Recorded at Studios 301 in Byron Bay, Koonyum Sun was the first collaborative album from Xavier Rudd and Izintaba. The partnership brought together Rudd with bassist Tio Moloantoa and percussionist Andile Nqubezelo, creating a vibrant collection centred around connection, nature and positive energy.
