Elmore James – Shake Your Moneymaker: Best of 1951-62 (Vinyl LP)

Shake Your Moneymaker: Best of 1951-62 brings together 16 essential recordings from blues legend Elmore James, one of the most important and influential slide guitarists of the 20th century. Spanning recordings made between 1951 and 1962, the collection captures the raw vocals, electrified Delta blues and ferocious slide guitar sound that earned James his reputation as the King of the Slide Guitar.

The collection opens with his iconic recording of Dust My Broom and features blues classics including It Hurts Me Too, The Sky Is Crying, I Can't Hold Out, Rollin' and Tumblin' and the title track Shake Your Moneymaker. Also included are Standing at the Crossroads, Blues Before Sunrise, The Sun Is Shining and Done Somebody Wrong.

Elmore James' aggressive amplified slide guitar style had an enormous influence on the generations that followed, with artists including Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan and George Thorogood drawing inspiration from his playing and repertoire. Shake Your Moneymaker: Best of 1951-62 provides an excellent introduction to the recordings that established James as one of the defining figures of electric blues.

This 2025 vinyl compilation from Acrobat collects 16 recordings from across James' career, beginning with Dust My Broom from 1951 and continuing through recordings from 1962. The collection is presented on a single black vinyl LP with eight tracks on each side.
